State Museum

Thrissur Zoo or State Museum & Zoo,Thrissur (formerly the Trichur Zoo) is a 13.5-acre(5.5 ha) zoo that opened in 1885 in the heart of Thrissur City, Kerala, India. It is one of the oldest zoos in the country, and is home to the wide variety of animals, reptiles, and birds. The zoo compound includes a natural history museum and an art museum that showcase the socio-cultural heritage of the region.

The Elephant Camp

The Elephant Camp is located in Punnathur Kotta. This Elephant Camp is one of its kinds in the world and is considered to be one of the largest elephant sanctuaries housing around 60 elephants. Most of the elephants are trained to participate in major processions and daily temple rituals. This camp is visited by several tourists every year. The rituals of Gajapooja (Worshipping Elephants) and Anayoottu (Feeding Elephants) are observed here

Athirapilly Falls

Athirappilly Falls is situated in Athirappilly panchayath in Thrissur district of Kerala, on the southwest coast of India. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River near the Vazhachal Forest Division and the Sholayar ranges, this 24-metre (80 ft) waterfall and the nearby Vazhachal Falls. It is nicknamed “The Niagara of India”.

Ilanjippara Falls

Nehru Park

Nehru Park, Thrissur is owned and maintained by Thrissur Corporation. Its a children’s park and is great to enjoy the time at evening. The park was named after the first Prime Minister of India, Javaharlal Nehru who loved children very much. Its a mini park having enough green meadows, sitting places and small rides for kids. Also you can see an aquarium inside the park. Greenery inside the park is really beautiful. Talking with your beloved ones while sitting on meadows will really be an interesting thing. There are several beautiful statues inside the park. The park is crowded in Thrissur festival season and other holidays. Its free to enter the park and have some beautiful moments with your beloved ones enjoying the beauty of greenary, statues and small rides for children.

This hillock has been converted by the Tourism Department as an amusement park. This is a beautiful hill which is a good picnic spot. Vazhani Dam

Vazhani, one of the biggest clay dams in Kerala with a length of 792.48 metres. This water is used mainly for irrigation and drinking purposes. This project in Thrissur district envisages construction of an earth dam built across the Vadakkancherry puzha, The project was completed during the year 1962. Vazhani dam and its garden is a splendid spectacular view.

Chimmini Dam

The dense tropical forests of Chimmini, shelter diverse flora and fauna. The dam across the Chimmini river offers a breathtaking view. This picturesque picnic spot is a favourite haunt of the local people. Located in the Mukundapuram Taluk of Thrissur district.

Peechi Dam

The dam was started as an irrigation project for the surrounding villages in Thrissur. At the same time, it catered the drinking water needs of the population of Thrissur City. It serves as an irrigation dam, reaching out to the paddy fields in and around Thrisur city. Built across the Manaly river, the dam is a vast catchment area of nearly 3,200 acres (1,300 ha) with extensive botanical gardens and cascading fountains offer numerous inviting avenues for tourists.

Snehatheeram Beach

Chavakkad Beach

Chavakkad Beach, lying on the coast of Arabian Sea. one of the best beaches along the West coast with coconut bordered sea-shore is a pleasing view of rare natural beauty entice and attract thousands of tourists. Fringed shadow of coconut lagoons and the mesmerizing atmosphere make Chavakkad Beach a tourist spot throughout the year. Chavakkad Beach is the place where the sea confluences with a river. This meeting of the sea with the river is known as Azhimokam in Kerela. The beaches at Chavakkad and Nattika are simply wonderful. The famous mural paintings are another fascination of the place.

Vadakunnathan Temple

Largest and ancient Shiva temples in Kerala and India. is a classic example of the Kerala style of architectrue. Vadakunnathan temple is a massive stone wall enclosing an area of nearly 9 acres(36,000m2). This temple is a classical example of Kerala style of architecture and has many decorative murals and works of art. This is the venue of the world famous Thrissur Pooram Festival celebrated annually in April-May. Non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple.

Lourdes Cathedral

Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours which is popularly called as New Church or Puthanpalli is the biggest and the tallest church in Asia. The 2 front towers of the church have a height of 146 feet while the central tower has a height of 260 feet which makes it the tallest church in Asia. The church is 2 storied and has 11 altars. The interior of this church is beautifully decorated with murals, images and sculptures. Thousands of pilgrims visit this church annually as this church is also a major tourist attraction.

Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Temple

Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple is located in Guruvayur and is dedicated to Lord Krishna and the Lord here is lovingly called as Guruvayoorappan. It is so popular that people from all parts of India visit this temple. This temple is popularly called as the ‘Dwaraka of the South’. The main entrance of this temple is called as the Bhooloka Vaikunta Nada. There is a gold plated flag post and a Deepa Stambha for lighting the lamps. This lamp post has 13 receptacles and is lit daily. The Srikovil is the place where the idol of Krishna is placed.

Cheraman Juma Masjid

Cheraman Juma Masjid which is India’s first Masjid was constructed in the year 628. Renovations have been made to the mosque several times with the last one in 1974. It is also the second oldest Juma Masjid in the world where the Friday prayers are conducted for the past 1375 years. There is an old lamp in this mosque which burns at all the time. The devotees can offer oil to light the lamp. The architecture of this mosque is in the traditional Hindu style.

Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum was until recently accommodated in the Kollengode Palace building. Now it has been shifted to the Shakthan Thampuran Palace, a landmark in the annals of the Perumpadappu Swaroopam, the former ruling dynasty of Kochi. The majestic building houses a gallery of murals from all over Kerala and preserves a rare treasure of Veerakallu, templemodels, olagrandhangal (manuscripts on dry palm leaves), megaliths etc.
